Itinerary
South Island: 8 days / 7 nights - Christchurch to Christchurch
Day 1: Christchurch - Hanmer Springs
Arrive at Christchurch Airport and be met by our local representative and shown to your rental car before driving North to the wonderful Hanmer Springs just North of Christchurch.
Day 2: Hanmer Springs - Kaikoura
Relax with the family at Hanmer Springs by heading for the thermal reserve park to soak in the naturally heated pools before a short drive onto Kaikoura in the afternoon to stay for one night.
Day 3: Kaikoura - Nelson
Kaikoura is a township on a rocky peninsula on the East Coast and is famous for the abundance of marine mammals and today you will get close to nature as you join one of the whale watch tours. In the afternoon continue North onto Nelson.
Day 4: Nelson
Nelson is the sunshine capital of New Zealand, and today you can explore the city and outlying areas including Golden Bay and other parts of the Abel Tasman National Park.
Day 5: Nelson - Westport
Today you will drive out to the old West Coast mining town of Westport. The district's heritage is on display at the museum where visitors can walk through a simulated underground mine or if you would rather you could visit the rugged coastline.
Day 6: Westport - Franz Josef
Head down the coast this morning to the famous Pancake Rocks and Blowholes of Punakaiki. Your afternoon drive will take you further South through Hokitika and onto Franz Josef Glacier.
Day 7: Franz Josef - Christchurch
In the morning you will join an informative guided tour of Franz Josef Glacier which will take 3 hours. In the afternoon you will take a leisurely drive back to Christchurch where your will spend you last night.
Day 8: Christchurch
Explore Christchurch city by foot or by Tram in the morning. After check out from the hotel your arrangements conclude with the return of your rental car to the airport or depot.
